The Uprooted Teachers Jazz Dance Workshop is an in-depth pedagogy of jazz dance with industry professionals - exploring an authentic way to teach the roots of jazz dance.
Each day will include Movement / lecture / discussion
- Each day ends with a group ‘community’ building discussion.
- Questions like “What are the challenges we meet in our institutions / schools / class studios when teaching Jazz dance?” “What makes jazz dance so important to me?” “ Where can I imagine Jazz dance in the future -next 10 years?” How do I teach this content from a place that respects its roots? Core Values?
Our Goals
- To create a community and a safe space amongst teachers - it’s ok to ask questions and to share.
- Provide guidance on how to process and potentially completely dismantle the way they or their institution teaches plus how to tackle the students and their mindset.
- Provide a hybrid of both movement, materials and context
- Provide active engagement with inspiration and additional ways to teach jazz in the classroom.
- Have a fluid class structure so they can ask questions at any point of the class.
